Richard Sharpe MSc FCIPD CMC (Director)
Richard is Managing Director and founder of Elementa Leadership, an organisation and leadership development consultancy focused on higher education. Richard has particular experience in working with top teams around strategy, leadership and culture.
Richard has over twenty years of consultancy experience. He has undertaken leadership and organisation development assignments throughout the UK and Europe, working across sectors and predominantly at executive level. He has worked for an international management consultancy in which he established and led a trading division specialising in aligning organisational culture with organisational strategy. Prior to establishing Elementa Leadership in 2008, Richard was Associate Director, Leadership at The Work Foundation. Richard's private, public and third sector clients included Nestle, GlaxoSmithKline, AXA, Legal & General, Sainsbury's, BT, Transport for London, The Cabinet Office, IATA (Geneva), Infineum (Shell/Exxon joint venture), The MS Society and CPRE.
Richard has worked extensively with a number of universities in the UK and has been centrally involved in two leadership development programmes that have won the Times Higher Education Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development Award in 2009 and 2014. Higher education institutions Richard has worked with include the University of Aberdeen, the University of Adelaide, the University of East Anglia, the University of Glasgow, Lancaster University, the University of Kent, the University of Sheffield, the University of Southampton, the University of York and the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Richard is committed to better understanding the international higher education landscape. He has invested in building relationships with leading public universities in the US, Australia and the Netherlands. These relationships have resulted in Richard leading a number of study visits to overseas universities involving UK higher education leaders. Institutions visited include Columbia University, the University of Michigan, New York University, four institutions from the University of California System including UC Berkeley and UC Davis, four of the 'Group of 8' universities in Australia including the Australian National University and European institutions including Aalto University, TU Delft and Maastricht University. The learning from these visits has helped to further develop his thinking around the concept of the 'Agile University'.
